Student Life

Building Connections and Community

At Ohio Virtual Academy (OHVA), students thrive in a welcoming environment with opportunities to connect, learn, and have fun—both virtually and in person!

Every student’s experience looks a little different at OHVA—and that’s the point! We’re committed to providing a respectful learning experience that is rewarding for each student’s individual needs and interests.

So, we offer a lot of choices for our OHVA community. Whether it’s through online clubs, in-person meetups, or daily classroom interactions, our students grow with confidence—learning to build friendships and pursue their passions along the way.

This may sound obvious, but it bears repeating: Ohio Virtual Academy is in Ohio. We’re an online tuition-free public school that believes learning is more fun when you’re part of a vibrant community of local students, families, and teachers.

Check out the various ways students get involved!

  • Virtual and Face-to-Face Clubs: From Cardy Club to history, to robotics and yoga, there’s something for every interest. Check out the clubs available this year!
  • Student-Led Activities: Students take the lead in creating and running clubs and events. View leadership opportunities.
  • In-Person Events: Field trips, family fun park days, and regional meetups bring our community together face-to-face. We also have an in-person prom and graduation!
  • OHVA Camp: Students in 4–7th grade are invited to an outdoor adventure where they can learn hands-on and make lasting memories! Learn more about OHVA Camp.
  • School Travel: Students in grades 8 through 12, along with their family members, are invited to attend overnight trips to historic places like Washington, D.C. Learn about travel opportunities for your student.

The OHVA K12 Zone is a safe, moderated interactive space where students can meet, chat, and participate in live events. A trusted leader in online education for more than 25 years, K12 is the learning platform that helps make our online school feel like your neighborhood school—personal, connected, and familiar.

Since we have such a variety of students throughout the whole state, the person you’re communicating with might live 200 miles away, but they have the same interests. Students you weren’t able to connect with in your small local school, you’ll find somebody who has the same interests and form friendships and bonds with people very much like yourself!

At OHVA, parents and legal guardians are encouraged to take a front-row seat in their child’s education as their Learning Coach.

While you don’t have to teach (that’s our Ohio-certified teachers’ job!), the Learning Coach plays an important role in their student’s success.

OHVA helps Learning Coaches and parents:

We make it easy for families to stay informed and involved every step of the way. We’re all in this together.
